The basics
What Is a Balloon Wall?
A balloon wall is an unbroken surface of balloons, most often 6 to 10 feet wide, that works as a backdrop.
A balloon arch frames a spot and a balloon garland follows a line, but a balloon wall covers the whole surface. It's built on a freestanding frame or grid, so it can stand in front of any wall, window or room divider and serve as a photo backdrop, a stage background, a dessert-table wall or a branded step-and-repeat.
Square foot for square foot, nothing in balloon decor makes a bigger statement. Walls work for birthdays, weddings, grad parties, gender reveals, holiday parties and company events, and the photos come out clean because there's no gap for the room behind to peek through.
Wall styles
Types of Balloon Walls We Build
Five ways to build a balloon wall, each with its own look and price.
Organic balloon walls
Mixed balloon sizes layered over the entire frame give an organic wall a cloud-like, dimensional texture. It's the richest-looking option and the one most couples and shower hosts choose. It also uses the most balloons, so it sits at the top of the price list.
Grid and link balloon walls
A grid wall (often called a link wall or quick link balloon wall) uses balloons with a tail on each end that connect into a net, so they line up in tidy rows. That grid lets you work in a checkerboard, a stripe, a heart or a big number. It's sharp and graphic, and it's the best way to show off brand or team colors.
Framed balloon walls
A framed wall packs balloons inside a shaped frame: a rectangle, an arched chiara top or a ring. The outline does a lot of the styling for you. An arched frame reads elegant, a square reads modern and a circle reads playful.
Foil and mylar balloon walls
Foil walls are made from mylar balloons, usually hearts, stars or squares in metallic finishes. They throw light around, look great on camera and contain no latex, which matters for guests with allergies and for hospitals, schools and venues that don't allow latex.
Floating and lighted balloon walls
A floating wall is rows of helium balloons on ribbons, weighted at the bottom so the whole surface sways gently. It's striking but brief, so it's best for a few hours, and it's not an option in Encinitas, Solana Beach or Del Mar, where helium balloons are restricted. Lighted walls weave in LED strings or LED balloons for evening parties and New Year's Eve.

Sizing
Balloon Wall Sizes and Balloon Counts
Choose the size by the photo you have in mind. An 8×8 ft wall fits six to eight people side by side.
| Wall size | Suits | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| 6×6 ft | Couples, small groups, a dessert-table wall | Fits condos and restaurant private rooms |
| 8×8 ft | Group shots, a cake table with guests | The size most hosts pick |
| 8×10 ft | Stages, head tables, step-and-repeat | Needs roughly 9 ft of ceiling |
| Custom widths | Long walls, stages, shop windows | Built in sections and joined on-site |
Grid walls of 11-inch link balloons take about 1.2–1.5 balloons per square foot, and organic walls take two to four times that. Check the ceiling height and keep 2–3 ft clear in front for photos.

A wall behind the cake keeps every photo clean and hides the kitchen, the garage or the parking lot behind it.
Stage and head-table background
Behind speeches, DJs, award presentations and the wedding party's table.
Branded step-and-repeat
A grid wall in company colors with a logo panel for launches, galas, conference booths and brewery anniversaries.
Room divider
Screens off a bar setup, a catering station or a storage corner in a rented hall.
Gender reveal moment
A neutral wall with a hidden pop panel, or a wall that turns pink or blue on the reveal side.

Installation
Balloon Wall Installation That Leaves Your Paint Alone
The short version: nothing gets attached to your walls.
Every wall we build sits on its own frame with a weighted base. At home, that means no tape or glue dots pulling paint. At hotels and event spaces around downtown and Mission Valley, where tape, nails and adhesives on walls are almost always off-limits, it means the venue has nothing to object to. A freestanding wall can also be slid a few feet on the day if the layout changes.
- 1
Measure
We confirm the wall size, the ceiling height, outlets for lights and the route from the door, elevator or loading dock to the spot.
- 2
Build
Large walls are built in panels, joined on-site and fluffed until the seams disappear.
- 3
Finish
Signs, vinyl, foil accents and lights go on last, then we check the wall from where the photos will be taken.
What's the best way to hang balloons on a wall? Don't hang them on the wall at all; put them on a frame in front of it. If you do attach balloons directly, use removable hooks and fishing line instead of tape, and test the adhesive somewhere hidden first.
Longevity
How Long Do Balloon Walls Last?
Indoors and air-filled, a wall keeps for days. A floating helium wall is a few-hours piece.
An air-filled organic or grid wall indoors keeps its shape for several days and often a full week, and foil walls outlast both. Floating helium walls start to sag within hours. Outdoors, a wall acts like a sail in the coastal afternoon breeze and fades quickly in inland sun, so outdoor walls go in shade, get extra weight and are built on the day.

Questions
Balloon Walls in San Diego: FAQ
What is a balloon wall?
It's a solid surface of balloons on its own frame, typically 6 to 10 feet across, that works as a photo backdrop, a stage background or the wall behind the cake. Styles include organic, grid, framed and foil.
How much do balloon walls cost?
Our foil balloon walls start at $110 for an 8×5 ft wall, grid walls at $395 and organic balloon walls at $575 for an 8×8 ft wall. Size, style and extras decide the final price.
How long do balloon walls last?
Air-filled walls last several days indoors, often a week. Foil walls last longer still. Floating helium walls last a few hours, and outdoor walls in strong inland sun last hours, not days.
What size balloon wall do I need?
An 8×8 ft wall is the most common choice and fits a group photo or a cake table. A 6×6 ft wall suits condos and couples' photos; 8×10 ft and custom widths suit stages and head tables.
Will a balloon wall damage my walls?
No. Each wall sits on a weighted frame a few inches in front of yours, so tape, nails and glue never come near the paint.
What do you call a wall of linked balloons?
A grid wall or link wall. It uses linking balloons connected into a net, which makes rows, patterns, numbers and logos possible.
Can a balloon wall be latex-free?
Yes. Foil (mylar) walls contain no latex and are the right choice for guests with latex allergies and for venues that don't allow it.
Can you put a balloon wall outside on a patio?
Yes, with a heavier base and tie-offs, because a solid wall catches the afternoon sea breeze like a sail. Shade and a same-day build keep it looking fresh, especially inland in summer.
